We wanted to give our young client a gift that was unique and special as she is. I think we succeeded … check out her smile at the end!!! Not only has this brave girl had to endure multiple operations, she struggles with things we all take for granted … such as getting into her own home.
Now try getting into the home on crutches or in a wheelchair. This is the exact reason why we encourage our clients to build step free entrances to their new Lifetime Home. So we got to work to help make the entrance more accessible. This is a photo with the formwork, steel reo and window protection in place, ready for the concrete pour.
Our client is now able to easily, safely and independently access her home. There is now a new wider front door and frame with no steps, an electronic fingerprint access so no keys are required, a concrete ramp for wheelchair access, internal grab-rails in the bathroom / toilet and external hand-rails.
We wanted to give our client a personalised gift from Lifetime Homes. Gaining inspiration from the ‘a doll like me’ movement, Sharon had an idea … and after months of thinking, planning and making …. she was delighted to see the joy on her face this week as she gave this special girl her personalised gift.
Sharon purchased a doll, handmade some purple resin fibreglass braces for the dolls feet and strapped the braces with velcro. Getting shoes to fit with the braces proved a challenge, one our client can certainly relate to.
The crutches were especially made to fit, spray painted and elastic attached.
Sharon also sourced some glasses and various outfits including a handmade purple skirt (thanks Heidi) made out of the same fabric and style as one owned by our client. Her mum said “thanks again for the lovely doll! She’s been playing with her all night.”
We love making people’s lives just that little bit easier and giving our clients more independence with every day life.
Check out that smile!
